Day 45: Psalm 29

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon leap like a calf,
Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of lightning.
The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord twists the oaks
and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord is enthroned as King forever.
The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace.

This scripture gives us:

  • a command to worship

  • a realization of the awesome and powerful voice of the Lord

  • insight into the Lord as our reigning King

  • the peace of knowing that King as the shepherd of His people

The first two verses, lead us in adoration to our God…Praise the Lord and Worship Him! It’s a command – we have no choice but to worship Him.

As we continue into verses 3-9, we see the attributes of God being spoken and we sit in awe and wonder of His power. We tremble at the sound of His voice. His voice is “powerful and majestic” like thunder and lightning.

Then, in verse 10, The Lord our God is seen on the throne…He is the reigning King forever.

And, verse 11…Oh, the warmth that is felt after the storm! The Lord is our Shepherd. He gives strength to His people and blesses us with peace! Praise God!

May we sit in worship and in wonder of Him today. And may we feel the warmth of His presence and tender care.
